How to select the right light or laser for your firearm
HiLight products come in many different shapes and sizes, from ultra-compact options like the P3X to full-power flagships like the Peak Performance Series and the P4X Weapon Light. Use the four steps below to pick the best match.
Quick rule: Start with fitment. Then choose function (light, laser, or combo), pick your color setup, and finally dial in your budget.
1) Fitment comes first
Your gun must have a slotted rail with at least about an inch of space from the slot to the trigger guard. Most railed pistols can fit most of our models, but very small subcompacts often need an adapter.
If you have a subcompact like a Glock 43, Sig P365, or S&W Shield, use a rail adapter so you get a secure mount and proper alignment: Recover Tactical Picatinny Rail Adapter for Subcompact Pistols
Tip: If you are not sure, measure the clear rail space on your frame (slot to trigger guard) before ordering.
2) Choose your function: light, laser, dual laser, or combo
Next, decide what you actually want on the gun. Pick the simplest setup that matches your use case.
- Light only: best for target identification and general utility.
- Laser only: fast aiming reference, especially from non-traditional positions.
- Dual laser: redundancy or multiple visibility options.
- Light + laser: the most versatile all-around choice.
- Light + dual laser: maximum capability and color flexibility.

Color is not just aesthetics. It changes visibility, how your eyes pick up the dot, and how your setup feels in different environments.
- Cyan: ultra bright and attention grabbing.
- Green or Blue: strong visibility and a solid all-around tier.
- Red or Purple: more toward the covert side, especially useful in lower light.
Do not forget the housing. Many HiLight products are available in Black, Anodize Tan, Cerakote FDE, and Cerakote OD Green.
